Rolling
into town in Robert Young's Studebaker truck, here comes
the Fourth Street Five with their second CD - Hittin'
On All Five. The band showcases a wide variety
of tunes played in the classic jazz style with a few
little twists in the road along the way. Together
since 1990, the Fourth Street Five Jazz Band has developed
a hard-driving sound that's distinctively their own.
So
Buckle up and enjoy the ride - Hittin' On All Five. The
tunes seem to fall naturally into groupings. The
largest of these contains tunes from the phenomenon
known as Tin-Pan Alley. Two pieces go far back into
the misty beginnings of jazz. There are two "crossover"
tunes to be found. And two pieces return to Northern
California, written for and about the Bay Area.
