from American Music Caravan
There are no adequate commercial fake or sheet music books for
this period. Most
of the non-big band standards are in fake books, but the
verses are rarely included. None of these books have complete melody lines for
the Big Band classics.
This
book is a collection of 2- and 4- beat fox trot's, swing,
big band and jazz tunes from the 30s and early 1940s.
Swing bands, e.g., Goodman, played a lot of 20s
pop and jazz standards. Most of these are in the
Dixieland Fake Book.
Waltzes and Latin tunes are in Gig
Book. Most tunes
are familiar, but there are some great forgotten tunes
you might enjoy playing.
"Stick to Sheik's chord books and fake books
and you have a winner!" |

"Your fake books are among the best, if not the best, of my rather
extensive collection. I know it must take a lot of work and ability to put
out those books. You've performed a great service to guys like me who
depend a lot on fake books for their musical enjoyment, and for
professionals as well. Keep up the good work, I hope to see more books by
you."

The 1930s is considered the "Golden Age" of American
song; many of today's "standards" were composed then, particularly during the
earlier years. Note that many bands such as the Benny Goodman Trio, Quartet, and
Orchestra, Teddy Wilson, Fats Waller, Lionel Hampton, the Bob Crosby Orchestra.,
etc., recorded many classic jazz tunes from the 1920s. These are in the Dixieland Fake Book, so we have included a
combined index to both books. Ballroom, Latin and novelty dances are likely to
be requested by the same folks who like the music in this book; those tunes are
in Gigbook, which therefore is a
companion to this one, so we included a combined index in
Gigbook. |

The Lyrics: All the lyrics for each
book are available by e-mail when you order. The
large print, 4-to-the-line chord format of the book prevents putting
lyrics directly under the staves. Space permitting they are
at the bottom of the page. Otherwise, there are separate lyrics
sheets which are formatted to match the measures in the tunes for
correct phrasing. NOTE:
Lyric pages are available by e-mail only. NO paper copies are available. |
